Love and Surprises chapter 1-5 by ~amandei:iconamandei:

1.
It was an sunny morning and a couple of garden gnomes were rooting under the flutterby bushes, which were planted in front of an magnificant red brick house.

Suddenly there was a loud crack followed by a tiny pop.

"Lauren!" A deep voice said, "please wait!"

"No, I'm done with the waiting Dan." said an exhausted but shrill voice.

"Exactly what are you going to tell her?"

"The truth." the shrill voice, which turned out to belong to a tall woman with long dazzling blonde hair, said simply. "I don't know what the fuss is all about, not that she wouldn't find out herself soon."

A red headed man came after her. "Well... I..." was all he managed to get out of his mouth.

"Ha! Made you speechless, didn't I?" The woman now stood in front of the black door of the brick house and looked straight into Dan's eyes with a smile on her face. "It wouldn't be fair to hide such a thing from her." she said, and her voice softened a bit.

"Yeah, I guess you're right" Dan said with a sigh. "I just don't want her to be one of those scarlet women that goes from one boy to another each and every week."

Lauren let out a snort. "Yeah, as if that's going to happen. Liane's the shyest person I've ever set my eye on." she said, at the same time as her face betrayed her and a tear fell from her eye.

Dan pulled her into a hug. "Everything's going to be alright, and I'm sure she won't be that shy when she's on Hogwarts."

She allowed herself a small smile, took his hand and walked through the door.

2.
Two bright blue eyes appeared behind a pair of eyelids as the morning silence broke with a loud crack. Liane yawned and stretched herself before she sat up in her bed. Actually she hated early mornings, but she knew that her mum would wake her up soon because they were going to Diagon Alley, so she didn't go back to sleep.

She jumped out from the bed and opened the window. When it was open, she heard two people argue. She caught a few words like Liane, shy and Hogwarts. Liane sighed.

Yes, she was an particulary shy person, and it didn't help with all the people that stared at her. When she was in public places like Diagon Alley, she had a habit of hiding behind one of her parents, so that no one could see her.

Liane bounced towards her mirror to choose the outfit of the day. In front of the mirror there was a mountain of clothes that she had not put into her wardrobe. On top of the mountain there was a rectangular box. In the box lay Liane's wand.

Eight inches, rosewood with an hair from a Veela. It was designed just for her, and strange as it sound, her mother gave Mr. Olivander the Veela hair. For the last couple of weeks, all Liane could think about was theories about how she got the hair, because Veela hair is very hard to get. There was no point of asking her, she was the best secret keeper in the world.

Liane threw the box onto the bed and poked around through all her robes and tee shirts to find her favourite summer robe. Aha, there it is, she thought, as she took out a navy blue robe with silver buttons which ended a few inches under her knees. She loved to wear robes, she wore robe all year around, non stop.

Knock, knock.

Liane jumped and squealed out a tiny "Who's there?"

"It's just me, dear." a voice, which she quickly recognized as her mother's, said.

"Oh!" Liane let out an relieved sigh, got her wand out of the box and walked to the door. "Alohomora!" she said with an settled voice.

The lock didn't unlock.

Now it was her mother's turn to sigh. "Alohomora!" Through the door she came and embraced Liane in a hug.

"Hi darling!" she said, "Why the bad mood?"

"What's the point" Liane said in an angry tone, "of being a witch when you can't even do magic?"

"Liane dear, you haven't even started at Hogwarts yet" her mum let out with a sigh.

"But Kay..." she started, but she was interruped by her mother

"You know very well that Kayley just want you to feel miserable about going to Hogwarts, since she doesn't want you sneaking around her, you shouldn't believe in what she tell you about magic and the school."

Kay, or Kayley, was Liane's lovley sister who would be starting her fifth year at Hogwarts. She loved to tell her younger sister stuff about Hogwarts that wasn't true, for example that the ghosts would wake you up every morning by tickeling your feet, and then fly you down to breakfast, only in your underwear. Kayley seemed to think it was really funny. It was nothing fun at all, thought Liane.

"I have to tell you something" her mother told her.

"Tell me what?"

"Well... I don't know how to say this..."

"Just say it!"

"Okay! You're part Veela."

What did she just say? "What!?" she practically shouted.

"You're part Veela. So am I. Your great grandmother Anna..." her mother started to explain.

"Who?"

"Your great grandmother Anna, from Sweden." she continued to explain.

Oh, that old nutter, Liane thought, and nodded to show that she understood.

"Well, she's a Veela. Which means that you and I..."

"What about Kayley?" she asked. Please say she's not, she thought, that would make her jealous.

"Yes, she's part Veela too."

CRAP

"I am 1/4 Veela, which means that you're..."

"1/8 Veela. Please mum, I'm not stupid!" Not always at least, she thought. "Does Kayley know?"

The mother gave her daughter a dazzling smile and shook her head. "Nah, thought that you ought to know something before her as a change.

Liane bounced around in her room and did her happy dance. "Thanks mum, you're the best!" she sang before she continued out through her door into Kayley's room.

"Hi Kay!"

"Wotcher! Hey, why are you so happy?" she snapped with an raised eyebrow.

"I know something you don't!"

At those five words, Kayley, who was laying on her bed with the latest issue of Witch Weekly, now sat straight up. "Now what did you say, you little maggot?"

She had the most angry face Liane had ever seen on her, and her hair were flying around as if it was storming, but it was no wind at all.

"I know something that you don't." she told Kay in a singsong voice.

"Now what exactly do you know that I don't?"

Liane were just on her way to answer when their mother knocked at Kayley's door.

"And here comes the peace maker." Kay said sarcasticly, "Please don't disturb mum, didn't you see the sign?"

Liane broke in to laughter, and her mum smiled.

"What is the problem, maggot? Mum?"

Liane walked to the door and took the sign off it to show Kayley.

"What the!?" she let out in a deadly low whisper, that Liane could not take as anything other than...

"WAR!"

Kay jumped on her feet and ran after Liane, who already had ran out and into the forest.

Please disturb,
Because I'm a stupid Hufflepuff ,
Who doesn't have anything to do.
Though I should be working to the OWLs,
But I'm sure I'll fail them anyway.

3.
When Lauren had found the girls in the forest, they cleaned off all the dirt on their robes, and then they flooed to Diagon Alley. Kayley went to Flourish & Blotts to buy all the books she and Liane needed, while Liane herself ran straight to madam Malkins for her Hogwarts robe.

When she got there she saw a girl with red hair who was being fitted into a robe, and a black haired boy who was sitting in a sofa, gazing at the girl dreamily.

"What are you drooling at?" the girl snapped.

The boy seemed to realize that he'd been staring at her, so he broke the gaze and looked down in his lap, turning a bright shade of pink in his face.

"Er... I just thought you... looked familiar," he said sheepishly.

"Oh, piss off!" the girl snapped.

Liane cleared her throat, to show them that she was there. The girl jumped and gasped "Oh!" The boy switched from pink to deep red.

"I'm sorry..." Liane said.

"What are you apologizing for?" the girl said with an amused look on her face, "I'm Lily, by the way, Lily Evans!" she said and reached out for her hand.

"Liane Delacour!" she answered and took her hand.

"You're going to Hogwarts too?" Lily asked.

"Yeah! I'm so excited!"

"You're the first first year-to-be I've met!" she exclaimed.

"That's not true!"

The girls turned around (Lily did with much protests from Madam Malkins) and saw the boy who obviously had eavesdropped on their conversation.

"What do you mean?" Lily snapped.

"I mean that you met me before Liane."

She was just on her way to retort, when Madam Malkins told her that she was done with her robe.

"It was really nice to meet you Liane!" she said, "I guess we'll meet on the train."

"Yeah, I guess so!" Liane replied, "I'll see you then!"

When Lily was just outside the door, Liane heared the boy gasp out, "Beautiful!"

"Excuse me?" she asked, a bit amused.

"Er.. I meant..." he started, "Never mind."

Liane raised an eyebrow. "I heard clearly what you said."

"Fine! I think she's beautiful. Happy now?"

Liane couldn't believe her ears. Did he just tell her that? They didn't even know each other!

"So, you're going to Hogwarts too?" she asked, desperate to change subject.

"Yeah! What house do you think you'll be sorted in?"

"I bet I'm a Hufflepuff."

"Nah, don't be so sure! Well, all my family was a Gryffindor, so I'm probably there too."

Their conversation about Hogwarts continued until Madam Malkins were done with his robe.

"We'll meet at Hogwarts I guess" he said, smiling.

"Yeah, bye!" Liane replied. "Hang on, what did you say your name was?"

The boy smiled, "James, James Potter."

---

When Liane's robe were done, and they had bought all the other stuff they needed, the girls went home and started to pack their trunks. When Liane were helf done, Kayley called at her.

"Oi, Lia!"

"What's up Kay?"

Her door opened.

"You still haven't told me!" an angry Kayley told her.

Uh oh! she thought, better get mum to explain this.

"Ask mum."

"No, you evil little maggot, you can't get out of this one." Now she looked really angry.

"Fine! You're part Veela."

Kayley's eyes went ide, and she slammed the door shut. Probably to ask mum if it was true, Liane thought. "She's such a jerk," she told herself, before continued with her packing.

4.
Liane woke up early, with a feeling that today was special. Then it hit her. It was September the 1st, she was going to Hogwarts!

She jumped out of bed, and called for their house elf Milly.

"You called, young mistress," she said.

"Yeah, hi Milly!" Liane greeted, "Could you make me some breakfast please?"

"Of course, miss! What would you like?"

"Toast and pumpkin juice."

The elf ran into the kitchen. Liane looked around in her room after muggle clothing, and found her tee shirt from France and a pair of green trousers. She held them up to see if they looked good together. Not that good, she thought, but whatever.

She dressed, and took a pair of outworn sneakers on, before she went down for breakfast.

"Enjoy your breakfast, miss," Milly squealed, "does miss want something else?"

"No I'm fine!"

The house elf sat down in the corner, and Liane started to eat. When she was done, Kayley came down.

"Milly," she said while trying to stop an yawn, "make me breakfast!"

Milly jumped up and said "Yes miss." before she started to summon things she needed.

"Milly, I don't want toast!" she told the house elf angrily, "I hate toase, you know I want bacon!"

She looked terrified. "Oh, Milly is so sorry, miss. I thought you were miss Liane."

Kayley sighed. "Milly. Make me some bacon. Now!"

"Kay, you're too hard on her!" Liane exclaimed.

"She's a house elf, Lia!" Kayley snapped, "It's her job."

"Well, she's not paid!"

Kayley roled her eyes. "She's a house elf!"

"So what? They're living creatures too!"

"I don't want to discuss this again." she said simply.

"Fine," Liane snapped before she ran to her room.

And she say I'm evil, she thought while she took a final check of her trunk.

At 10 o'clock, Lauren called her down. "Liane dear, we're leaving in ten minutes!" was her words.

"Yes mum, I just need my wand!"

Liane sighed. Her wand. It was in the bottom of the mountain of clothes. It looks like I'll have to dive in, she thought. And she dove, just to find out that the wand wasn't there. It was on her desk.

When she'd got her wand, she bounced downstairs. When she was in the stair, she heard Kayley mutter something about "burned the bacon"

Liane rolled her eyes, and told her mum that she was ready to go.

Five minutes later they used Side-Along-Apparation to platform 9 3/4, where they saw an over-excited red headed girl talking to her family.

"Lily!" Liane said, and the girl turned around, with a smile on her face.

5.
“Hi Liane!” Lily said happily, “I’m so excited!”

“Yeah, me too!” Liane squealed.

“Lucky me to have a friend already!” she said relieved.

Friend, Liane thought happily.

“Well, I’m sure you’d make friends anyway,” Liane said. “You’re such a nice person.”

“No, seriously, I’m not.”

“Who said my name?” a black haired boy, who had passed by, said.

“Er, we don’t know you.” Liane said.

“Well, now you do,” he said with a grin, “Sirius Black.”

“I’m Liane Delacour, and this is Lily Evans.”

“Nice to meet you!” he said with a charming smile, which Liane had a feeling was towards her.

Lily, apparently sensing the tension between them, said “We ought to get on the train.”

They all said goodbye to their families, but Sirius ignored his family, except from a small boy, who could be his brother.

“I’ll send you tons of letters, I swear!” Sirius said, trying to convince his brother.

“But I’ll miss you,” he cried.

“Reg, we’ll meet at Christmas.”

“Promise?”

Sirius looked straight into his little brother’s wet eyes. “Promise.”

“That’s adorable!” sighed Lily, smiling while Sirius sent her a death glare, but the smile faded when she saw James.

“Don’t tell me that you’re going to Hogwarts?” she cried.

“What if I am?” the boy asked, “That’s just great, we’ll se each other every day!” he added with a smile.

Lily gave him a disgusted look, before she and Liane walked to the train. They saw Sirius sitting alone in a compartment, so they went in.

“Is it okay if we sit here?” Lily asked.

He nodded.

“Which house do you fancy to be in?” she asked.

“Anything but Slytherin,” he sighed, “Everyone in my family has been there."

Pureblood prat, Liane thought.

Sirius seemed to understand what she had been thinking, because he got a chocked look on his face and said "No! I mean - my family is..."

"I get it," she said with a cool voice.

"No you don't!" he said with hurt in his voice.

They gave each other the cold shoulder for the rest of the trip. Half way to Hogwarts, James and a brown haired boy came in. "Can we sit here?" James asked.

"Sure!" Liane said happily, and Lily groaned.

"I'm James," he said, trying to start a conversation with Lily, but instead he got a death glare. "If looks could kill," he mumbled.

"May I ask you what your name is?" Liane asked the other boy politely.

"Er, I'm Remus," he said.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Liane!" she said, "Which house do you suppose you'll be in?"

"Hufflepuff, I guess..." he said with a sigh.

“Don’t be so sure,” She replied, but quickly changed the topic.

“Liane?” cried Lily, “could you come over here please?” Her eyes flickered in the direction of James, who sat very close up to her. Liane pushed him away. “Thanks! But that was not the main motive for making you travel such a long way.” Liane frowned.

“Get to the point!”

“Er, well… Is it-why does your shirt say ‘Evil Little Maggot’?”

“What?” Liane said while looking down at her shirt. “What in the name of Merlin!?” she shrieked, and looked around after the responsible person, and saw her sister sitting in the compartment opposite to theirs, smirking.

When Liane was on her way to Kayley, she was stopped by Sirius.

“Don’t you dare stop me!” she said, her hair flying around her head. Sirius looked like he was in chock.

“I-I can f-fix it,” he stuttered, “if you want.”

He was actually trying to help me, Liane thought. Damn it, why do I have to be so stupid?

Her hair went back to normal, and she said “Sorry,” in a small voice.

Sirius took his wand and pointed it on her shirt, while muttering something, and the shirt went back to normal.

“Thanks,” she said in a, if possible, smaller voice. She sat down besides Lily again.

How am I going to explain all this? She thought, and how did I lose control?

“What happened to your hair?” Lily asked in a soft voice, but when she saw the tears in Liane’s eyes she laid her arms around her.

After half an hour of sobbing into Lily’s shoulder, Liane was hungry.

“I’m hungry,” she said, “shouldn’t the trolley been here by now?”

“It was just here, didn’t you notice?” Remus asked.

“Just my luck,” Liane muttered.

“Do you like pumpkin pasties?” he asked.

She nodded.

“You can have mine,” he said, throwing a couple of pasties to her, “I’m full.”

She gave him a tearful smile, and said “Thanks!”

Then she noticed that the tears had stopped coming.
